From a very young age, Paula has listened to the messages of the Muse by paying attention to her dreams, her imagination, and the creative urgings of her heart.
She wrote and illustrated her first book using paper, pencil, and staples, at the age of seven. In seventh grade, Paula's next contribution to literature was her own mystery story written on tablet paper, modeled after the stories of Nancy Drew. She followed this impulse to write by majoring in Creative Writing at Pennsylvania State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts. Then she married her husband, Bob. When they moved to the Washington DC area, she studied textile arts with Joan Koslan Schwartz, while also writing articles for the in-house magazine of Group Hospitalization Inc./Blue Cross & Blue Shield where she worked.
When Bob accepted a job with the state of New York, he and Paula moved to the Albany, NY area with their first son (creativity in its most magical and primal form), giving birth to their second son the following year. Looking for a creative outlet similar to the textile studies in DC, Paula took her first weaving class and fell in love with the craft. Her passion for writing and weaving prompted her to enroll in an independent study program for a Master of Fine Arts, concentrating in both visual and written fantasy. She received her MFA shortly after the birth of her third son.
With three boys underfoot and under loom, Paula started her business, Nettles and Green Threads, weaving colorful luxury rayon chenille wearables and throws for shops and customers across the country and in Europe, South America, and Japan. Her clients included galleries at top resorts like the Greenbrier Hotel (WV) and the Broadmoor (CO), and museum shops like the Smithsonian's Renwick. Her work was featured in The Complete Book of Scarves and in Home Magazine. She still weaves for select designers and customers.
Her inside look at the professional craft business prompted her to regularly write feature articles, first for Crafts Report magazine, then for Crafts Business Magazine. She also contributed to Faery Magazine. As an avid reader appreciative of good writing, Paula wrote book reviews for Foreword Magazine, and continues to write them for Clarion and Broadsheet.
In 2006, using computer technology instead of tablet paper and pencil, Paula published her book, Weaving a Woman's Life: Spiritual Lessons from the Loom, her love letter to women. The book won several awards, including a Bronze in the Self-Help category in Foreword Magazine's 2006 Book of the Year Awards.
More recently, Paula has written articles for online sites such as First30Days.com and Beliefnet.com, as well as her own blog.
In the mid-1980's, an aunt gave Paula her first tarot deck. Enchanted by the myths, symbols and artwork of the tarot, she continues to study it. Now she combines her extensive knowledge and experience in creativity, dreams, tarot and rituals to help others define their hearts' visions, layout step-by-step plans, and take the necessary action to make those creative visions a reality.
She does this from her studio and home where she lives with her husband of 36 years, in the foothills of the Catskills in New York, a place where the wildlife and the wildfolk roam freely.
